Antigua & its volcanic embrace

Begin in the heart of Guatemala’s colonial soul. Surrounded by volcanoes, Antigua captivates with its cobblestone streets, colorful facades, vibrant markets and endless opportunities to explore history, food and daily life at a relaxed pace.

The natural beauty of Lake Atitlán

Experience the breathtaking landscapes of Lake Atitlán, where deep blue waters, volcanoes, and traditional villages come together in one of the most beautiful settings in the world. A place to slow down, connect with nature, and take it all in.

The ancient grandeur of Tikal

Step into the Maya world at Tikal, where towering temples rise above the jungle canopy. Exploring this extraordinary site at sunset offers a powerful and unforgettable connection to Guatemala’s ancient history.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome to Guatemala!
Day 2 - Antigua's Colonial Charm

We’ll begin our journey with a relaxed and welcoming first day in Antigua. We’ll explore the city on a guided walking tour, getting to know its charm and history, followed by a hands-on tortilla-making experience.
In the afternoon, we’ll venture beyond the city to discover nearby towns before coming together for a warm welcome dinner to celebrate the start of our adventure.

Day 3 - Pacaya Volcano

We’ll start the day with a guided morning hike at Pacaya Volcano, walking across dried lava fields and forest trails with sweeping views along the way. After the hike, we’ll return to Antigua and enjoy a free afternoon to relax or explore the city at your own pace.

Day 4 - Market tour and cooking workshop

We'll immerse ourselves in Guatemalan culture through food, community and meaningful connection.
We'll begin with a guided market tour where we'll learn about local ingredients, traditional flavors and the everyday rhythms of life in Guatemala, followed by a hands-on cooking workshop and a shared lunch.

Day 5 - Iximché

We’ll travel from Antigua toward Lake Atitlán, one of Guatemala’s most beautiful regions.
Along the way, we’ll stop at Iximché, one of the last Maya capitals, to explore the ruins and learn about the history of the Kaqchikel people before continuing to Panajachel.

Day 6 - Villages around the Lake

We’ll explore Lake Atitlán by private boat, starting in Santiago Atitlán with a visit to the shrine of Maximón and an introduction to the traditions of the Tz’utujil Maya community.
We’ll then continue to San Juan La Laguna, known for its women-led artisan cooperatives and colorful murals, and finish the day in San Marcos La Laguna with a visit to the Cerro Tzankujil Nature Reserve.

Day 7 - Atitlán Nature Reserve

Nature takes center stage as we visit the Reserva Atitlán, a peaceful sanctuary surrounded by lush forest and wildlife. In the afternoon, we’ll travel to Sololá to visit the MAIA Impact School and learn about its innovative educational program empowering Indigenous girls from rural communities.

Day 8 - Chichicastenango

We will visit the famous town of Chichicastenango, known for its vibrant indigenous market, historic churches and deep cultural traditions.
After the visit, we will continue our journey through the lush highlands to San Cristóbal Verapaz.

Day 9 - San Cristóbal Verapaz

We’ll spend the morning in San Cristóbal Verapaz, beginning with a guided visit to the Katinamit Museum, dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Pokomchí people. We’ll then stroll through the town before continuing our journey to Lanquín in the afternoon.

Day 10 - Semuc Champey

We’ll join a tour to Semuc Champey, exploring its stunning turquoise pools, swimming, and enjoying the surrounding jungle. Later in the afternoon, we’ll return to Lanquín for an immersive cacao experience, learning about cacao as a sacred plant, its cultivation, and traditional preparation methods.

Day 11 - Candelaria Caves

We’ll depart from Lanquín and begin our journey toward Petén, crossing diverse landscapes as we make our way north.
We’ll stop at the Candelaria Caves, where we’ll enjoy a relaxed tubing experience through the caves’ underground river; a gentle and refreshing way to stretch our legs and experience this unique natural setting.
We will continue our journey throught the lowlands of Petén and arrive near Flores later in the day.

Day 12 - Flores and surroundings

Today we’ll explore the charming island town of Flores and its surroundings, combining time on land and on the water. We’ll visit local communities and initiatives in the area, learning about projects led by women and the role they play in preserving traditional knowledge and the natural environment.
We’ll also enjoy a relaxed private boat experience on Lake Petén Itzá, allowing us to take in the scenery and visit cultural and natural sites around the lake at an easy pace.

Day 13 - Tikal

We’ll start the day at a relaxed pace, enjoying some free time in the morning before traveling to Tikal. Upon arrival, we’ll embark on a private sunset tour of this magnificent ancient Maya city, as the ruins are bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. The combination of history, jungle sounds, and the changing light makes for a truly magical experience.

Day 14 - To Livingston

We’ll depart from Tikal and begin our journey toward Río Dulce. Along the route, we’ll stop at a peaceful countryside retreat surrounded by a unique blend of pine forest and jungle.
Upon arrival to Río Dulce, we’ll board a boat to Livingston, navigating through the impressive Río Dulce canyon, where towering limestone walls and lush tropical vegetation line both sides of the river.

Day 15 - Livingston

We’ll explore Livingston at a relaxed pace, beginning with time to wander through the town and soak in its vibrant Garífuna culture, colorful streets, and Caribbean rhythm.
Later in the day, we’ll head out by boat to Playa Blanca, a peaceful stretch of white sand where we can swim, relax, and enjoy the laid-back atmosphere by the sea.
In the evening, we’ll come together for a cultural exchange dinner with community guides from the region.

Day 16 - Quiriguá

We’ll depart Livingston by boat to Puerto Barrios, where we’ll begin our journey toward Guatemala City. Along the way, we’ll stop at the ancient Maya site of Quiriguá, known for its impressive stone stelae, the tallest in the Maya world. We’ll arrive in Guatemala City later in the afternoon.

Day 17 - Guatemala City

We’ll explore the historic and civic heart of Guatemala City, discovering key landmarks and stories that reflect the country’s past and present.
In the mid-afternoon, we’ll travel outside the city to the place where I grew up for a very special farewell dinner, celebrating the connections and experiences shared throughout our journey.

Day 18 - Safe travels!

Time to say goodbye to Guatemala and to one another, taking home unforgettable memories, meaningful connections, and a deeper appreciation for this diverse and vibrant country.

For single occupancy, a supplement of € 750 applies.
To secure your spot, a downpayment of € 750 is required, with the remaining balance due 45 days before the trip starts.

What is included?

  • All hotel accommodations with breakfast.
  • Tortilla workshop, welcome dinner, cooking workshop with lunch, cultural exchange dinner and farewell dinner.
  • All mentioned tours and activities, including entrance tickets, English-speaking guides and boat transfers where applicable.
  • All road transfers.
  • The company and guidance of Paula Bran, your local guide, who will share her knowledge, insights and love for Guatemala throughout the entire journey.

What is not included?

  • International airfare to and from Guatemala.
  • Meals and activities not included in the itinerary.
  • Personal expenses.
  • Travel and/or cancellation insurance.
  • Any vaccinations.
This is an intimate small-group experience with a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 12 travelers. This allows for meaningful interactions, deeper cultural exchange, and a more personal and responsible way of traveling.
This journey has been thoughtfully co-designed in collaboration with Positive Impact Tourism (PIT), ensuring the experience goes beyond travel and actively supports local communities, women-led initiatives, and conservation projects throughout Guatemala.
